Feeding Instructions:

  1. Formula Preparation: Combine formula and hot water (approx. 120°F) in a clean, sanitized container according to the age chart. Use boiled or bottled water if tap water contains bacteria.
  2. Mix Thoroughly: Mix formula thoroughly and let it sit for one minute.
  3. Cool Mixture: Cool mixture to 105°F (or between 102° - 110°F). The mixture should have the consistency of thick creamy pudding. Stir vigorously if a smoother consistency is desired.

Special Preparation Notes:

  • Do Not Reuse Mixed Formula: Discard and mix fresh at each feeding.
  • Avoid Microwaving: Microwaving can create "hot spots" and increase the risk of crop burns. If necessary, microwave (on high) for no more than 5 seconds per 1/2 cup of mixed formula at a time. Stir thoroughly to avoid hot spots.
  • Early Stage Feeding: For chicks hatch to 2 days old, formula should be made in small quantities and thoroughly stirred before feeding.

Feeding Schedule:

  • Feed baby birds on a routine schedule, allowing the crop to empty (or nearly empty) between feedings to avoid food spoilage.
  • Feeding Method: Use a clean, disinfected syringe, spoon, or tube. Feed until the crop is nicely rounded or the bird refuses more food. Do not overfeed to avoid regurgitation.
  • Portion Size: Generally, each meal should be 10-12% of the bird's body weight.
  • Hygiene: Clean and sanitize feeding equipment after use. Change bedding after each feeding.

Storage Instructions:

  • Seal Tightly: After opening, remove air from the package and reseal tightly.
  • Use Promptly: Use within 30 - 45 days.
  • Cool Storage: Store in a cool, dry location. Refrigerate or freeze for extended storage.

Kaytee exact High Fat Hand Feeding Formula ensures your baby birds receive the best nutrition for healthy growth and development, with the added benefit of a higher fat content for specific species.
